Downing, MD, are among the authors of two recent publications. “Metoprolol vs diltiazem for atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular rate: systematic review and meta-analysis of adverse events” appears in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine. 2025; March 89:230-240. “Blood pressure variability and outcome predictors for traumatic brain injury patients with diffuse axonal injury: a retrospective cohort study” was published December 31 in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Assistant Professor Alexis Salerno, MD, is the 2025 recipient of the Young Educator Award given by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. This award recognizes an AAEM member less than five years out of residency for outstanding contributions in educational programs. Dr. Salerno teaches point-of-care ultrasound to fellows, residents, medical students, and colleagues in the School of Medicine, UMMS, and nationally. She will receive her award in April at the AAEM Scientific Assembly in Miami.
