Our department staffs and manages five hospitals in downtown Baltimore. All of our physicians in this practice have faculty appointments with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and are given the opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of educational endeavors. From teaching medical students and residents to giving lectures on a local, national, and international stage, our faculty are on the cutting edge of emergency medicine education.
Our department has a wonderful reputation for helping our faculty grow and develop their professional interests in the field of emergency medicine. Our current faculty's interests are wide-ranging: emergency care, cardiopulmonary and brain resuscitation, clinical toxicology, prehospital care, emergency medical services, disaster preparedness and response, international medicine, use of ultrasound in the emergency department, and the incorporation of simulation into medical education. Junior faculty will appreciate our established faculty development program, run by our Vice Chair of Education, Dr. Amal Mattu.
Our department offers several fellowships to emergency medicine physicians who wish to develop a niche within the field. All of our fellows receive a faculty appointment through the University of Maryland School of Medicine and work clinically part-time.
As a fellow in our department, you will find a supporting environment among your collegues, department leadership, and staff who will encourage and assist your fellowship endeavor.
