• When repeating doses of pain medicines especially in the setting of vital sign abnormality, broaden the differential diagnosis rather than trying to hammer a square peg in a round hole. • Avoid rushing to the finish line prematurely at time of sign out when there is a tendency to attempt to hastily disposition patients to avoid signing the patient out. Consider all diagnostic possibilities. • Follow up on all tests ordered. For example, if a chest x-ray is delayed, follow up with staff to make sure the CXR is completed in a timely manner. If LFTs hemolyze, be sure to acknowledge this in the chart and follow up on the laboratory if it is resent.
