How to speak to an Orthopaedist

• Key points to communicate to orthopedist regarding a fracture: right vs. left, location of fracture, displacement, open vs. closed, comminuted?, shortened?, intraarticular vs. Extra-articular, distal neurovascular exam • For humeral shaft fracture, treatment: coaptation splint with a sling • Tibial plateau fracture: describe any displacement, angulation and importantly whether it is depressed. Treatment: Consult orthopedics because often require operative repair. If discharging, document soft compartments, intact peroneal nerve function, straight leg knee immobilizer + non-weightbearing • If you've diagnosed a calcaneal fracture, don’t miss the second injury. Obtain XR of the other foot and lumbar spine
