Silicone Embolism Syndrome: Drs. Leverett and Salerno • Risk factors: multiple injections, large volumes of silicone, surgery done outside the US. Ask about cosmetic procedures. • Pulmonary symptoms are the most common presentation, but it can affect other organs. • Ophthalmic involvement is rare but has a poor prognosis despite the memorable name of “Brazilian booty retinopathy.” • Treatment is high-dose systemic steroids and supportive care. Spontaneous Retroperitoneal Hematoma: Drs. Al Ghamdi and Fisher • May present with vague symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, nausea/vomiting. • Classically may have Cullen’s and Grey Turner’s sign. • Beware of back and abdominal pain and in patients who are on anticoagulation.
