Critical Care - “How to Run A Code”
Shock trauma Auditorium
• Do a rhythm check, not a pulse check. • Strong leadership matters when running a code. Better run codes have better quality CPR, less hands-off time, and have a better chance of achieving ROSC. • Use end-tidal, A-lines, and POCUS to detect ROSC. End-tidal CO2 < 10 has decreased chance of ROSC. A sudden increase in end-tidal CO2 suggests ROSC has been achieved. • POCUS should be your standard of care. It can be used to detect ROSC, identify the etiology of ROSC, identify pseudo-PEA, cease resuscitation, confirm ETT.
