CPC (Rogers/Rubenstein) - Legionella Pneumonia & Ehrlichiosis Encephalitis

Legionella Pneumonia: Drs. Zach Rogers and Dr. Tejus Rao • Legionella lives in fresh water. Mode of transmission: inhalation of contaminated droplets of water • Who should be tested: known or concern for exposure, immunocompromised, elderly. • Treatment: azithromycin 1st line. Can also use levofloxacin. Ehrlichiosis Encephalitis: Drs. Becca Rubenstein and Leen Ablaihed • Ehrlichiosis occurs along the East-Coast through the South-eastern US. • Diagnosis: Ehrlichiosis PCR. Need a high clinical suspicion, so focus on collecting a good history. • Treatment: Doxycycline 100 mg BID. Even in children.
