Academic Activities and Responsibilities

Hi there! I'm Jon Strong, one of the Emergency Medicine chief residents at the University of Maryland.

Born and raised in Central Wisconsin, I was exposed to medicine at an early age. My father and grandfather, both primary care physicians, practiced in small rural towns where other physicians were seldom present. They were often de facto Emergency Medicine physicians, and when I decided on a career in medicine I knew I wanted a broad scope of practice like them. Emergency Medicine was/is a very natural fit.

I went to college at the University of Minnesota where I studied microbiology and Swahili then went on to medical school at the University of Wisconsin. I took a leave of absence after my third year of medical school to pursue a MPH at Johns Hopkins focusing on biostatistics and global health. Throughout my education I've worked on numerous research projects overseas, most recently in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions -- particularly if you are interested in research or global health!
