University of Maryland
Thanks for deciding to learn a little bit more about me. I grew up in Maryland, pursued my undergraduate studies in Emmitsburg, Maryland, at Mount Saint Mary's University, and went to medical school here at the University of Maryland. How did I choose emergency medicine? In college I was part of the outdoor adventures program that required its leaders to become certified as a Wilderness First Responder. After this, I pursued my interest in wilderness medicine to get additional training in high angle rock rescue and swift water rescue. Once I started medical school I figured it was a natural transition between wilderness medicine and emergency medicine, and I felt at home as soon as I started my rotation in the department.
After I finished my rotation here at Maryland, why would I want to go anywhere else? We have super-dedicated, industry-leading, internationally-recognized faculty who are all about education. We have high acuity patients. We have an incredible state-wide EMS system. We have the Shock Trauma Center, where the concept of the "Golden Hour" and one of the nation's first helicopter medevac systems were created. We have brand-new facilities. We have a bunch of fellowships.
Now I finally have the opportunity to start giving back to the state that raised me. Plus, I don't have to worry about getting the NFL Sunday Ticket to watch the Ravens play... when I have time.
