Academic Activities and Responsibilities

Greetings, and thank you for considering the University of Maryland's EM program to launch you into your career.

I have the rare, distinct honor of being known as a "Triple Terp!" I have attended the University of Maryland for undergrad, medical school, and now residency too! I grew up in Maryland and have always found Maryland to be great microcosm of other places I've visited. Some may ask, "Why stay in Maryland for so long?" The decision on where to do residency is multi-factorial for many, and I was no exception. But in so many words, it really just boils down to where you feel like you fit in!

I was fairly confident that I wanted to do EM before I even started medical school. As many students do, I began the process of getting acquainted with the faculty of my home program. The faculty at the University of Maryland were so welcoming and genuine in their desire to prepare me for 4th year and the match cycle that I could only imagine how dedicated they could be to their own residents. Although, I am a Maryland medical school alum, I only started to grasp the tip of the iceberg when it came to just how prominent many of our faculty are in the world (literally, the world) of emergency medicine. We have the privilege of having faculty that will be the moderators and writers of many of the EM podcasts, and EM literature that you will be hearing and reading in your residency program, regardless of location.

Like I said in the beginning, the most important part of choosing a program is to choose one where you fit in. It has been my great experience to report that the University of Maryland EM program does an incredible job at recruiting bright, intelligent, diverse, and NORMAL residents! I emphasize the "normal" part because there's nothing worse than sitting next to a complete weirdo at 3AM on one of your rotations.

If you want a program that specializes in creating leaders in EM, world-class education, cutting edge therapies, and cultivating OUTSTANDING emergency clinicians, then I urge you to take a closer look at our program!
