Course Description

University of Maryland Emergency Medicine Leadership & Faculty Development Course is an in-depth, 3-day course that focuses on basic and advanced topics in Leadership, Education, Administration and Faculty Development.  Through a series of interactive lectures, case presentations, group discussions and audience-participation sessions, this course will teach the participants how to design,  lead and direct the emergency department and the EM training program, how to staff the ED, how to measure and improve quality and patient safety, how to design and improve ED operations, how to get promoted, how to be an effective leader, and how to be the most effective ED director and manager possible. 
 
This international course has been offered dozens of times in over 12 countries over the past 9 years.  This course is specifically designed to meet the career development needs of emergency physicians, critical care physicians, health care providers and health educators to enhance their skills as leaders, educators, administrators and program directors.  The LEAF Course has been developed for the international emergency audience and to physicians and residents working in newly-developing emergency medicine systems.  The course is open to all U.S. physicians, international physicians and health care providers, including nurses, paramedics and other interested emergency care workers.

Speakers for the Leadership & Faculty Devleopment Course include faculty emergency medicine specialists and educators from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Emerency Medicine. Guest Lecturers from the world of international emergency medicine will be included as well.
