University of Maryland Bowie Health Center opened its doors in 1978 and is longest running free-standing emergency center in the state. Located in Bowie, Maryland, this facility is equipped to handle level 2 emergencies and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with board-eligible/board-prepared emergency physicians. Patients who require more advanced care are transferred by Maryland ExpressCare to nearby hospitals via ambulance or helicopter. The facility is currently planning a renovation, and once complete, the facility will expand to 27 beds, including two resuscitation rooms, a four bed triage, and 21 private rooms in two discrete pods. Patients often experience shorter wait times than a traditional emergency department and can receive laboratory and radiology services on-site.
Bowie is located in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and is 20 miles from the center of Washington D.C. and about 30 miles from downtown Baltimore. For more community information, visit the official website for Bowie, MD.
